Portrait no.2

Portrait of Squidward in the Mannerist artstyle
Portrait no.2

The first portrait in this series that references a very specific composition, Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror by Parmigianino. I chose to parody this piece in particular to highlight & show-off the very weird perspectives & compositions of the Mannerist period. This is shown through how the background distorts in a spherical form & the heavy foreshortening on Squidward’s arm as it gets closer to the viewer, almost as if you’re looking at him (yourself?) through the reflection of a convex mirror, ey? Unlike the previous piece that captures Squidward in a more naturalistic manner, this portrait captures a more idealized version of himself as not only him, but the world around him as the world is painted more brighter than usual. Not only that, but colors are coordinated with the color of his eyes reflecting the color of the walls as well as the color of his shirt reflecting the color of the ceiling. If this was painted by Squidward himself, you could imagine he sees the world almost revolving around his idealized depiction of himself.
